I am now seriously trying to figure out finances for this. Most likely I would be driving from Phx, AZ. Is anyone else coming from the SW that you know of Dorsai ? Be nice to see how they are coming Plane or auto ? I figure it would be at least 14-18 hrs of driving. If anyone knows different let me know. I'm posting this to remind everyone that I'm looking to recruit about 10 players to serve as snipers. We've already got 4 lined up for our O.S.S. unit, 1 for the 899th Blackcat Tank Destroyers and 1 for the 101st. We still need at least 4 for the CEF (Commonwealth Expeditionary Force), 3 for the 101st and 4 for the 82nd. All snipers will be working with a second player who will serve as their security/spotter. We also intend to run a 1 day class to insure everyone can do the job. <SNIP> If you'd like more details, or would just like to talk about our plans for 2013, please feel free to give me a call. I'm available most any time between 0600-2000hrs, eastern time. Thanks again, Andy Van Der Plaats J-9, Office of the CofS, SHAEF "in bello, parvis momentis magni casus intercedunt" Office: 407.563.3884 Cell: 239.410.9632 Email: ADorsai@aol.com

Let me start off by noting that I spoke with Trinity for a little over an hour yesterday and I can attest to the fact he's not a Canadian or even living there. As for the guys from Canada, they're part of a group called the CEF, or Commonwealth Expeditionary Force. They've got the best digs at the field, as well as their own bar. Here's a link to their website for anyone who'd like to check them out - cefpaintball.com/en/Here's a link to a short clip I shot in 2010 showing what our TOC (Tactical Operations Center) looks like - www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPYmNO17X7EJust one note about that, we've stopped using the computers as we found they just weren't necessary, but we still run 4 base stations, as well as some other gear that I can't discuss here. As to the question about is there anyone coming from AZ? I know we have a guy or a few who play in our Free French unit, out of the Carlsbad, NM area, who might be worth getting in touch with. I can also check with our J1 to see who he has listed on our roster out your way. Give me a day or two to work on that. Got any other questions, give me a call.

Let me start off by noting that I spoke with Trinity for a little over an hour yesterday and I can attest to the fact he's not a Canadian or even living there. Thanks Dorsai for the confirmation on not being Canadian. I would have answered up sooner but I was up on the Canadian border. Word has it that the one-eyed green guys have been slithering South lately and I was up there holding the line. Dorsai and I had a very long conversation about D-Day and the organization of the Allied side. I have played in my share of Scenario events and that includes some very well together games, but I have never seen anything near the kind of organization, tactics, and planning that he outlined. Unless you have already decided that you will definitely be going, my advice is most certainly not to talk to Dorsai. A few minutes of talking to him and hearing his enthusiasm and committment and you find yourself adding up travel costs in your head and figuring out how you can be away for a week. On a serious note, if you really are thinking of going but not sure about something or other, I would give Dorsai a call. He will have the answer.

Since speaking with 'ruraldawgs' yesterday I thought I'd post some recent clips to help everyone get some sense of just how large this field is. This first one was created by 'Enola Gaye,' the smoke grenade makers from the U.K. During the clip you'll see the field from the ground, as well as from a chopper. What's you can't see are the shifts in elevation, which play a big role in you're ability to move about. The thick woods inhibit you're ability to see very far, but then that also works to your advantage. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UtBHP_oI-MHere's a second over flight which shows some, but not all of the built up areas; youtu.be/nprmUjCemXgFinally a clip filmed by some of the CEF boys. Note the view of their 'barracks at the end, a converted Conex container with bunk beds, pin up poster and frig. CEF owns 12-14 of these, including some with AC. youtu.be/nprmUjCemXgSincerely,

Just want to let 'ruraldawgs' know I checked with Kelly who heads up our O.S.S. about you looking to hook up with someone and he noted that his son and maybe 1-2 others are planning to drive over from Vegas. Best option I have for you so far. Also heard from Cody, spokesperson for Scarab Arms that he plans to come, even if the firm doesn't. He has a small hard core team in Vegas, but they're not part of Kelly's son's (Nate) group.
Anyone else who is looking to make the trip, who might want to split drive costs, please let me know and I'll look into finding you a ride, or co-driver.

If all goes as planned I will be driving from Lubbock TX. Dorsai do you happen to know if there is a web page dedicated to D-Day car pooling? A place where folks thinking about going could log on and look for folks in their neck of the woods so to speak. If not maybe a cool idea to build upon.

We could create a FB group for that. But that would require people to be on FB or know someone on FB.... If all goes as planned I will be driving from Lubbock TX. Latest news from the Bunker regards FSR. Appears they've worked out a deal with Tiberius to have them make a 'custom' color fill. No, I don't have any idea what color it'll be, but my money is on it matching whatever color they've selected for everyone else to shoot. Please don't hold me to that however...
Almost forgot, looks like I'll have the SAR12 ad from Sonny Lopez some time next week and it also appears that Lopez may also take part, probably with the 101st, since he ran with them previously...

Can you tell us anymore about the Sniper Contest and the course? I would love to participate in something like this. Is there a specific day or will the course be open all week for competition?

Ok, here's the link to what they're calling the tentative schedule. We already know that RAP-4 will also be staging a Mag fed only game some time on Thursday, but to date there's been no other details, or for that matter site or time for it. more about that as it becomes available.. Link - www.ddaypark.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/2013-Event-Schedule-DDAY-Autosaved.pdfAs to what you have to do in order to win the Sniper contest, again this is something that just popped up a couple days ago, so I doubt even they know what'll take. Again, more details as they become available... I also see that instead of just a single mini event each day Tues, Wed & Thur., there are two. One is just for fun, but the other one, the one they have designated as a T.O.G. game offers both sides an opportunity to collect a series of unspecified 'perks' which can then be redeemed during the main event on Saturday. Last year those 'perks' let us start one of our units 15 minutes early, another gave one division some other advantage over the other side. Both sides can collect these 'perks,' but it'll be our intent, if possible, to keep them from getting any. Finally, we still haven't worked out when we're going to look to run our own advanced sniper course. As you can imagine with so many things happening and only so much time in a day it's never easy to pick a time that's good for everyone. I know, many players are there for almost two weeks, yet it always ends up being a mad rush at the end. The one thing I can assure everyone is that they'll be able to engage plenty of targets...

The Bunker just posted the revised schedule this year. Looks like the Mag Fed event is set for Thursday between 1500-1700, which leaves plenty of time for anyone looking to take part in the night event. Also just a reminder, NE Oklahoma is typically very hot as well as extremely humid during this event. Mosquitoes aren't an issue, but ticks can be if you don't take proper precautions. I strongly recommend use of the military wash, as a way to avoid problems. The camp site itself is pretty free of all bugs, but we generally lay down a good dose of bug dust before we set up camp. Depending on which unit you decide to run with some of the units will trim the grass so it looks like your lawn. www.ddaypark.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/2013-Event-Schedule-DDAY-Autosaved.pdf

As if there's not enough to keep everyone busy all week they've gone an added another event, a three gun match type event sponsored by Tippmann. Guessing from the email that was sent out it sounds like it's similar to the real steel version, only in this one you forums.ddayadventurepark.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1413&d=1364507129Monday - Thursday evenings we will run a timed shooting lane at the O course. Each person will only be allowed to run the course one time. The time completed and number of target hits will go on record. Thursday night we will post the 25 top times. Those 25 will compete in the semi-finals Friday morning at the Caen paintball area. This lane of fire will include three markers provided by Tippmann. Each semi-finalist will run this stage by engaging all of the targets with the markers provided in the fastest time possible. Top 6 move to the finals which will be held on Friday. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFOFednthXA

Wanted to share a few more clips with everyone, to help give you a better idea of what you'll be facing, both off and on the field. Remember those wooded areas you'll see aren't flat and there are a good number of structures, bunkers and even an old steel two lane bridge hidden in there, as well as about 5 miles of various types of roadway and jeep trails.
Commonwealth Expeditionary Force (CEF) flight
German 6th FJR group's flight
NOTE: Helicopter offers rides typically lasting approx. 5-7 minutes, for 20-25 bucks per seat. Chopper holds 3 paying passengers plus pilot.

Ok, you've already been warned about the heat, humidity and bugs, so that just leaves where you're planning to stay? If you bring a tent, make sure you bring some extra heavy duty tent stakes to secure it and if you've got a small generator, remember you can only run it till 10 pm. Pop Ups are not built to stand up to strong winds, so remember to take them down if a storm is approaching.
When it comes to staying clean, there are two shower buildings, but with so many people the odds of finding any hot water are slim.
There are also plenty of well marked places to dump your trash, so please don't just toss it. Remember, this is home for many of us for a week or more, so if you see trash, please pick it up.
This year they've also said no more fire rings made from field stones, so if you're looking to have a camp fire, bring a metal fire ring, or cut down a 55 gallon drum and as far as firewood goes, there's plenty of dead fall around in the surrounding woods, plus they usually have someone driving around selling fire wood, so no cutting live trees.
Everyone is responsible for their own stuff and generally you'll find people camping with you trustworthy, but that doesn't mean you can just leave your I Pad, wallet, camera and other valuables laying about. Lock them up in your car, or ask a buddy to secure it in theirs if you don't have a vehicle.
Finally, just about everyone I know forgets something, that's why they have a small store next to the D-Day Café which sells stuff. There's a nice IGA grocery store nearby in Seneca, as well as a Super Walmart, Lowes and a couple motels in Neosho, which is about 20 minutes drive to the east. There's also a Dairy Queen and a mom and pop ice cream shop in Seneca, as well as a bank, Laundromat and auto parts store and if you want to gamble there's the new casino right across from where you turn off Hwy 60

Starting at 0900hrs on June 15, 2013, players from both sides may hear the strains of this melody playing over and over in their minds as they begin what for them will be their Longest Day.
Come and join them and learn why this event isn't like any other paintball game you'll ever taken part in. It truly is the Longest Day..
