Saw this a while ago. Looks really really interesting. Abit on the expensive side but if they actually get it to work as intended then ... Wow... I want one

they're offering beta testing for $1000. for that much money, i want to buy a 100% tested and functional gun, not run around with something that needs tweaking, if it even works right. the company is off to a bad start already.

@shadow: with you brother. No more spending big, big bucks on beta testing or pre-orders (which is alpha testing - one step before beta testing cause the product doesn't even exist yet and is then theoretically shipped directly to you flaws and all).
My budget/cash capabilities for improvements and new purchases this year got spent before the season started on Xtreme Dreams/Lucky 7. It is all gone and I have nothing to show for it.
And, for someone as old as I am, this may have been my final season!
But, that SAR 12 Sniper Rifle is a thing of sheer beauty. It works as well as Viagra!

Actually the SAR 12 already does exists in real life, It's beta version sure but it does work. I would never dream about putting up 1000$ for pre-order (or pre-order anything) but i disagree with shadow. the SAR 12 and company looks very promising because they're really really testing it and trying to make sure to catch the problems BEFORE they launch the marker (unlike many other companies that send out markers that still has alot of really obvious flaws). They're timetable might be a bit on the optimistic side but who knows... i mean they've already been designing and working on this for awhile before announcing it.
And like Chicago said it looks so wicked nice!!!!! if they get everything the way they want it... let's just say i'll apply for some extra hours at work during the summer.

The SAR 12 is a thing of rare beauty. But, I've found a new love. I would give up my posse for one of these and for not much more money than the SAR. They are called Hellhounds! Oh! please don't tell my posse I said that, they are jealous enough about the Major: www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/photo.php?fbid=10150763628493200&set=a.10150763627598200.463019.55076703199&type=1&theater Only problem I had when I tried one was the potential to overshoot someone. They have to be quick at calling themselves out. At 50 balls a second, in one burst you can hand out enough pain and welts to last a lifetime!

Carmatech has updated the production date on its rifle. Production is now "winter 2012," whatever that means. It is taking preorders for the gun. With a $200 pre-order you get an eight-week build date. The pre-order form suggests an expected delivery date late in 2012.
The constant postponement on the production of the rifle, the complete lack of status updates, along with the institution of a $200.00 preorder process with an 8-week build time instead of a general rifle introduction leaves a bad tastes in my mouth. I wonder how the beta-testers who laid out a $1000 dollars feel about the process. We haven't heard one word from any of them. That is, I suspect, because Carmatech has forbidden them from commenting on the status of the testing.
I am not a fan of preordering any kind of gear or equipment that is " first-of-its-kind," never-seen-before stuff (paintball or otherwise). That always seem like such a huge risk. It would be very difficult for me to pre-order this gun in the face of the postponements and the obvious beta-tester blackout.
Anyone who has played this game for a while knows about testing gear and fixing problems. All new equipment has issues that have to be dealt with. What scares me is when a company's testing process goes completely opaque to the outside world. A lot of people are following this gun and just a tiny bit of transparency would go a long ways.

Very disappointing to hear. But, the SR1 is out and seems to sound like a great marker.
I see if I can learn anything more about the SAR12...

Isn't Carmatech still in a patent agreement battle with Tacamo?

I believe all that was recently settled and it is Carmatech that holds the mag patent at issue. I don't know the exact details of the settlement but from what I am reading it will permit other companies mags to continue to be made and sold. This patent fight may have slowed down companies like Tacamo or Scarab Arms but it shouldn't have impacted Carmatech.
I have no inside information whatsoever but this preorder approach along with the prior beta tester thing sounds like an undercapitalized company struggling to generate short-term operating revenue so it can stay operating long enough to produce a product. There is no way to know for sure but it just feels risky.

Tacamo which is under RAP4 had a patent problem with Carmatech because their mags were the same. There is talks of a settlement but its been dragged out since Paintball Extravaganza earlier this year. I really like to know what the patent or agreement states because I have a MKV that needs the D mags. The pre-order and lack of info is very suspect on top of the large amount of money for the gun out right. That is why I'm not interested in it too much. Too expensive and no/not enough info for me to make that kind of investment.

I am led to believe that RAP4 and Carmatech settled their patent dispute over the mags. Sounds to me like Carmatech got some much-needed operating money and RAP4 got the okay (probably licensed) to produce and sell its mags. In any case, I am told RAP4 has told its mag producers to gear up for production.
This just might work out well for both sides.

From Omar Macy's Facebook page concerning the settlement of the litigation between RAP4 and Carmatech on the mag. issue:
"Now that we have Reached an agreement with Carmatech about patent we have resumed production It will take several days to a week to asses where our suppliers are in their manufacturing capacity before we can give a release date Once all suppliers are booked so to speak It will further take about a month to manufacture the massive numbers of components that are necessary in order to keep the prices of the DMAGS as close to the number projected We will give a release date only when we have Confirmations from all manufacturers that they have finished their respective productions and are ready to provide tracking numbers This will be the only way to have an accurate DMAG release date any other way would just be best guess Thank you for your understanding Omar"
