It looks like you take whatever paint you want to use and insert it into a rubber-ish set of fins. Posted on Scarab Arms Facebook page.

Hey, that was my idea (truly. but I have no copyright or patent to back that up in court. Just a lot of correspondance - including the old whistlers, remember skully?)

I don't like it. That gap between the shell and paint makes me weary. Granted, if the overall weight is heavier than a FSR, it might be worth looking into, since a heavier round is less likely to be pushed by wind and there fore, more stable in flight. That means better accuracy, especially at longer ranges. ^_^

Are those 43 cal or 68?

Look like .68 cal. WhiteFeather and I are already having a very long and in depth conversation about these rounds. I will post up excerpts later on when we finish up.

there go the bore sizes in our rifles! I'll order some just to see them explode in the Tib/Lapco 0.683 rifled. Image getting hit by one of those at 10-15 yards away!

My guess is that is must be a rebal like material holding a 50cal round. Reusable for sighting maybe?
I just don't see how a 68 cal round can be retained by that structure and fired down a barrel. Gotta be 50cal...
If they are reusable you'd have lots of people picking them up off the ground. Price is reasonable enough. Perhaps first strike will drop.

FB and MagFed PB says they are 50 cal. I cant see buying em for 30 bucks per 100, then buying 50 cal paint, then loading them all, then the compatibility issue, along with increased drag on the front.... the cleaning them all up if you pick them up off the ground....
I will stick with TA FSR's.

I have a few questions before I even consider buying these:
1: Do they come with paint or must you purchase the paint yourself? If I have to purchase a bag of paint to fill these myself, it would not be worth the cost of switching over from FSR.
2:Considering that he said that it uses .68 paint, that shell looks a lot bigger than the .68 paintball as well as a FSR. How much bigger is this round than the FSR? And if it is bigger, must I get a larger barrel to fit these new rounds? I'm not keen on spending $100+ on a new barrel just to fit this paint when I have others that fit FSR already.
3: Is the shell biodegradable? That is a big concern for not only players, but field owners who might not be willing to use them on their fields because if they aren't, then that means more trash on the field.
4: That edge between the paintball and shell does concern me due to drag issues, but because of the weight, I might be able to overlook that. a normal paintball is 3.2-3.5g, while a FSR is 3.1-3.3g. using this shell, depending on its weight, the new total weight will be significantly more than a FSR, which leads to better stability and accuracy. But, there is a concern with that added weight. The ASTM limit on paintball weight is 4g. Let's hope they took that into consideration prior to making these. It would suck if they were a good round, only to be banned because they exceed the ASTM weight limit.
These rounds really intrigue me, and I would be willing to buy a few hundred for accuracy testing and comparisons. Would I use these exclusively? No. They would have to have to be extraordinary increases in distance, accuracy, and stability in order for me to consider these rounds as my permanent go to rounds in place of FSR.

I'm wondering what size paint goes in. If the outer dimensions is 68 cal; is it like 0.684 paintballs? or do they just squeeze in there and one size fits all. How do you think they'd work in a magazine?

UPDATE!
By browsing around their Face book page as well as looking at comments, I have determined that the paint that goes into the shell will be .50 paint. if it were .68 paint, that shell would be at least .75, and there are not many barrels that will fit that. So in order to fit into existing FSR capable markers as they claim, the paint has to be .50.
Based on that, does paint come with the round or must we buy our own? And if it comes with paint, what kind of paint is it and what is the quality? I don't want to shoot crap paint when I am paying .30c a round. I'd rather pay the extra 10c and shoot FSRs.

Anyone know what 50 cal paint weighs? What does 50 cal plus shell weigh? Will the two be legal as far as paintball stands? I volunteer to shoot Nessy with one so he can tell us how it feels!

Heard from Gman1 on Tiberius (he's a seller - said $29 for 100, expected out in July of this year - if that's paintball speak, it means March of 2014!)

As some people have stated it is really going to come down to weight.
With my limited understanding of Aerodynamics its my uneducated opinion that the ridge everyone is worrying about will prove to be an extremely minor variable.
The way the spherical/dome tips on these rounds and the FSR are so inefficient at parting the air paired with the round squating down under load makes me think this will be minor. The way you see it static on the table and the way it looks in flight loaded up might have that seam tighter than you think.
I think what your getting is a reusable round for sighting and practice that could be used in place of FSR.
What I want to try is take one of these rounds and glue in a brand new 50cal rebal inside it so I can practice target shooting into ball catcher cage for the dull winter months.

dusty27, I believe you are right to a point with the ridge. The question comes to weight. If the weight of this round is more than a FSR, but under the ASTM limit of 4g, then the ridge will be negligible. If it weighs the same as a FSR, it will probably flight a little differently. That could affect the accuracy of the round. I can't really say what I would prefer until they come out and I can get a batch to weigh, measure, and test fire.
I do like that idea of gluing a reball into it for target practice. I wish I had thought of that. I am probably going to have to steal that idea from you. lol

It's been "speculated" that the plastic fins are made of frangible material. I'm hoping they have done their homework because those samples looks heavy and plasticky. Anyway, I'm excited that we now have options.

Hmm...definitely not what I was hoping for. Nothing like the "gen 1" versions. At least it will have the ability to have different color fills, maybe a little more paint in it, and they should break on target better. It also will eliminate the nipple/rough spot on the tip of it and if there is a dimple on the 50 cal ball, you could rotate it to get a smooth surface and you can align the seam on them. It will also be possible to reuse them for target practice and chrono which will save a little extra.

From Scarab Arms Facebook
Scarab Arms hello just to clarify a couple of things here 1. it is not plastic and it's frangible so it's not reusable 2. it's packed with the paint and we will offer different colors. thanks SA

Sorry to double post but here is a video, that at the end, showcases the new sniper rounds. www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=133831150126253&set=vb.100004981055635&type=2&theaterI was watching the leader guy for the white team and I was trying to determine what the strange barrel attachment was. I think its a double curved mirror for spying around corners. Clever. I think these rounds will be heavier than FSR because 50cal sphere volume = .0654 68cal hemi-sphere volume .0634 Not much different... but they fact that the round will have effectively two rear skins makes me think it will push up to but not exceed 4g Also the thought occurs you can have a speed ball delicate shell shoot out of a blow back tippmann without excess breakage currently encountered. With the new information about the "shattering" casings and the lower price I am thinking they are targeting the field owners as the desired customer. Which makes sense now.
