I was talking with UrbanSniper earlier and I asked him why he was selling his paintball gear. He responded by saying that he was going to airsoft. What I want to know is what's better about airsoft as apposed to paintball? Sure it can be less expensive but I don't see how its all that fun, because they don't appear to be accurate at all nor do they leave a splat/mark signaling they have been hit. So why is airsoft better, if it is?

This topic might start some nasty things. I will step lightly here and only offer what I feel and know.
Most of the people I know here, that are into airsoft are trying to get out of it. Some of the reasons are:
Cheating- There is no visible mark left and people will say they didn't get hit. Guns are illegal to import- They are also difficult to get and are considered "replicas" Fields- Most of the airsoft games are on borrowed land. That can cause problems. To make it worse, there isn't any good field here for airsoft. Safety- With no set field regulations, players are free to make up their own. They choose to wear just eye protection and use FPS in access of 500fps, which is like a real firearm.
Those are their reasons for looking at paintball. What had stopped them before was those ugly hoppers. With the introduction of mag fed, we are getting airsoft players try it out.

It can be boiled down to personal opinion. Is one better than the other, is football better than soccer?
I thought ones that maybe we could turn this into a snipers forum for all snipers( non firearm snipers)

Yeah, that's about it. Its a choice the player has to make. Maybe if airsoft was more popular here and easier to get the guns, I would be playing it.

I plan on getting some real steel in a few months when I turn 18, so it will allow me to, dare I say "train" with a similar platform. Plus there seems to be quite a bit of cool milsim games (helicopters and jeeps and stuff) that are happening up in canada...... The quest for Milsim haha. and Ghost It seems (atleast from my lurking on the canadain airsoft forum) that there are the same (if not more, in some circumstances) regulations that we have in paintball.

Again, I am no expert. I just post what I hear. What rules do they have? I am not familiar with their sport/hobby.

My opinion is that airsoft is for playing around where paintball is a real sport. Now in Finland it's quite common for young kids to start playing airsoft, and once they get old enough for paintball (you need to be 15 in finland to play paintball) they change to paintball since it's more of a "adult game" (their words not mine). They all say the same things as major said, people cheat all the time which takes away the point of it.
As for getting any training from airsoft for real firearms... no you won't, they are even less realistic in terms of firing then a t9 or t4 is. No recoil, crappy accuracy and range. they might look the part but there's nothing there that actually can simulate a real gun.
Now this makes it sound like im against airsoft, im not. I play airsoft with my younger borthers and it can be really fun. I wouldn't play against anyone i didn't know though due to the cheating.

Its backwards in Canada haha, real airsoft is pretty much exclusive to 18+. As far as realsim goes, It really depends on the gun. I'm personally looking at buying a gas blow back m4. They are the more realsitic type platform. Meaning all the parts are pretty much bang on to the real deal, the bolt actually cycles giving you some recoil (dont know how much though), exclusive to 30 round mags that when empty actually trigger the bolt catch, the bolt is very similar to that of a real m4.
Do a quick search of them on youtube or something you will be impressed.
The battery operated ones, they arent that realistic, but some gas blowbacks are, depends on the gun itself.

I play with my family, and we use the honor system to judge weather the hit is legit or not.
If your looking for a way to ID a hit, there is 6mm paintballs.

But they wouldn't work with airsoft guns. Would they?

I'm 99% sure they will.
I use to be into airsoft before I went paintball.

From what I've read the 6mm paintballs really suck. there supposed to blow up in the guns like crazy.
