I am planning to buy the optiplogic Micro 2 range finder and want to build a custom case for it to mount to a para pro. My question is if I cover the front of the range finder with plexy glass will it still be able to range find through the plexy glass? I'd like to do this so the front glass optics do not take an impact from a paintball. If it wont work through the plexy glass I may just make a hinged or sliding door for it to use when needed and keep it covered the rest of the time. If anyone knows or can point me to someone who would, it would be appreciated.

Hello.
I am not sure if you bought the micro yet but if I may I would highly recommend the vendetta range finder system manufactured by Leopold. The range finder is meant for a bow therefore I had to buy a custom adapter weaver/dovetail off ebay to mount it.
I don't run with the rangefinder on often but when I do its fairly quick to attach it if the field merits its use. With the electronic switch and easy to read display its really easy to use. My adapter sits upside down on the bottom rail allowing the range finder to mount to the left side of my para pro. As pictured below in a rudimentary text diagram with the X being the rangefinder and the dash being the adapter and stock mount. XO --
I also run with a HHA optimizer and a Eotech 552 with the holosight adjusted to give me extra ramp. I really love the the HHA optimizer and although most people state that it has too little ramp in comparison to other adjustable risers it works well for the medium range non magnified play style I enjoy with the accuracy my paradigm offers.
Best of luck what ever setup you go with!

To answer your original question, yes it should work thru plexiglass. I created a cover for my vendetta for the same reasons and it worked fine. I can also vouch for the how well the vendetta works, at least out to about 70 yards. I ended up getting a bushnell yardage pro which works way better but is way more expensive.
I use the bushnell on the HHA optomizer and in its stock form, it has about 35 yards of adjustment. I am working on modifying it and it looks like I should be able to get 80-100 yards of adjustment out of it which will be perfect! I'm just still trying to find a place that has a CNC machine to create my wheel, I tried to do it myself but it's not perfect enough when done by hand.

Thanks guys. I have not bought the micro range finder yet. I saw the vendetta for sale but i dont really like the 70 yards max on it. The micro goes out to 100 or 400 yards depending on model. Only draw back on the micro is that the digital display is only viewable through the optic. Its non-magnified so eye relief wont be an issue but im just concerned on how far the range finder can be mounted on my para pro with still being able to read the display. I have an optimizer already and will be selling my tiberius scope for a bushnell banner dusk to dawn shot gun scope. I'm a little confused on some of the advertising on that scope some sources say its a 4 inch eye relief and some say its 6inches. Might have to call the company to verify. Just wish all this stuff was carried in a store so I could test stuff out before buying!

As they say, it should work as long as the plexi is clean and unscratched. The effect of the plexi on the laser with the accuracy required should be insignificant for this application.
One thing i would recommend is to put down some thought into how you mount the glass, so that it is easily changed WHEN, not if, it gets scratched to the point of it affecting the ranging. It should be quite forgiving on the scratches tho.
I really recommend contacting the manufacturer for the eye relief and readability, and as you say the possibility to test out the optics WITH a mask, is priceless.
Good Luck with the build!

I went with the optilogic micro ii range finder. I used it over the weekend in game and had no trouble seeing the #'s with a mask on. Its tiny(palm sized) and weighs hardley anything. It took a quick glance through the manual to figuer out how to change from yards/meters and the balistic VAC but it was simple once i understood it. I havnt made the case for it yet but hope to soon. I wil make it so the plexi glass can be swapped out when needed, that was good advice. I ended up getting a volunteer to play as spotter for me so i didn't have a need to have it mounted but in the future im going with it mounted...having your spotter get eliminated makes ranging very difficult, lol.
