Our new member SirRod has a question we should be able to answer. " I shoot the Dye Assault Matrix prefer to call it the Assault Matrix I also shoot the NT11 PGP Warrior, Smart Parts SP-1 I need info quick. I am going to the gun show in Tampa at the Fair Grounds this weekend and am looking for a scope or red dot site for my AM. I will be getting a HH Battelstix at D-Day. I plan to shoot first strike rounds at D-Day I need some advise on a scope and riser for my AM. Now I know this isn't a good place to ask these questions but time is limited. I have read some on your forums. I still am undecided as to what I should buy at a reasonable price. Thus this post. The vendors at the gun show have only one thought to sell as much stuff as they can so they don't really have our best interest in mind. Any advise you can give me on products to look for would be greatly appreciated."
I'v heard good things about hawke and aimpoint, as for the raisers I'd look into specifically paintball designed models, tho some made for crosbows and hunting bows might work well too.
Help us out here ppl, I know your sitting on some good personal experience.

I'm 63. My eye isn't what it used to be. But, I refuse to wear glasses while playing paintball (and my lenses are graduated so hard to work with a scope anyway). All said because you might eventually start suffering from that too at your age. So, why state the obvious? To help explain my choice in scopes. I've had fake eotechs and fake ACOG when I was younger. they seemed to fog up and darken with age of the lens (and probably my eyes). Got a real, but cheap ($70) 3X fixed truglo scope (a crossbow scope as a test).
It is ok, but dark and hard to focus because of the eye relief. Got a cheap (under $100) aimpoint. It's ok but so very heavy, I use it on an old air gun now for shooting vermits! Found an old adjustable with scope with range finding (they used in Vietnam, the name fails me). I liked it; but, it would not hold zero!
Long story to make a point, I saw a hawke XB30 listed cheap (I got it for like $160 something shipped - saved over $120). I never spent that much on a scope for paintball but gave it a try. OMG, the clarity and the precision in my shots (because you can adjust velocity as well - yes, another crossbow scope!). It made all the difference in the world and helped me accurately range find thru the magnified len - something I really needed). It is the scope for me!
Since that time, Hawke came out with a cheaper version called the XB1 (you can get it with the same range finding rectile and it can adjust to the speed of your projectile as well). The reason I mention it, is that it allows you to range out to 100 yards (which in my opinion is the max distance that I can shoot a first strike without wasting the round (0.399 cents a round for me). Why mention?
Cause I picked one up for myself the other day when I got a new marker! Don't get me wrong (the XB30 is the ultimate) but I wanted a cheaper scope for this cheaper marker. So, I have very limited experience with the XB1. I haven't even sighted it in yet (and won't my son be surprised - cause he took the new marker when I wasn't home last night to go play paintball today). Anyway, in simply viewing thru it, I noticed it wasn't as bright (but bstill better than many) and of course, slightly smaller apeturer (which explains that). Also the rectile is more squished together to fit 100 yards into it! I haven't shot it yet so that's the best I can say. Still has a generous eye relief for your paintball mask!
I have three markers I use one is CQB Mp7 withrReal Eotech (that's for close up and personal). One midrange, T9.1 , its a light weight riffle (shorter barel) for woodsball. And one long range CCM SR1 for sniping long range (with long barrel and MilSig silencer on that! You can use the Hawke XB1 and XB30 for any of those scenerios, I feel you get what you pay for, The XB30 would be my recommendation with a Hammerhead riffled barrel!.
The fastest, easiest targetting system for paintball out there in my opinion and experience!
P.S. if you are into light weight, the XB1 wins over the heavier, better made XB30!

Chicago pretty much summed it up.
I have a DAM as my main marker and use HH barrels with it. Just another FYI, I've used from 8" to 20" with suppressor (about 25" total) and have not noticed much of a difference in accuracy.
I have the Hawke XB1 on mine and mounted a fake eotech on top of it for CQB. It's very hard to sight in quickly with a scope. The combination works great for me.
With the DAM, you shouldn't need a riser unless you are wanting an adjustable riser. I have not had a need for one with the XB1. I set it on the lowest power, sight in at 40 yards, and then the crosshairs lay out for each additional 7 yards so it's good out to about 95 yards with no need to adjust a riser. I am in the process of getting a Bushnell rangefinding scope to put on a HHA riser for either my DAM or hopefully a SR1. Rangefinding is one of the biggest concerns with FS's. There's a few ways to deal with that but that's a whole nother topic.

Thank you guys for your kindness. I will be looking into getting a xb1 or xb30. For the time being I bought a blasphemous Chinese sight. At the Gun Show I looked for about 2 hours and as time was close to the end of the show. I went ahead and got a ncstar bgr135. We are leaving on Friday morning but I am going to Orlando Thursday because of I don't have working vehicle myself, so I have to get my son to drop me off Thursday nite. Thanks to both of you for your kind input, and I have to ware glasses and they fog, and then rain inside my grills. I want to get contact lenses but haven't had the chance. My good friend Andy Van Der Platts has told me of some of the guys from ACES web site would be coming to D-Day. I play with the 899th TDB Black Cats, Please come by and get acquainted. I am CWO CMO Chaplin 1st Cook, so if you get to do come by and see me. Thanks again. SirRod

Ditto, XB1 and love it. FS rounds just find there way right onto the reticle crosshairs. You just have to get used to snapping it up if your on the move (I play in the southwest US deserts, so permanent cover is limited and I am often on the move).

To be honest with old sights or red dots, I never saw the round travel, only where it hit (and not always even that). With the Hawke XB30, I pull the trigger and I can see the round in flght and when and where it hit the target each and every time!

Thanks everyone for your help. I've told Rod to pass along some feedback on the game, along with some photos and video, so when he sends it you can figure on seeing it here as well.
