I believe it would depend on where it's fired from. A lot of the time if it's not shaded, I think black would make it stand out more. I've tried coloring the inside of the fins and it doesn't seem to help much since the fins create a shaded area and the color doesn't show up any better from my few tests.

I tried a bit if this myself using bright oranges and yellows inside the fins. Looked promising in the tubes but didn't seem to help much with round visibility going downrange. By coincidence, some of the painted rounds ended up sitting for a few weeks in the tubes without being used. It appeared to me that the paint caused some slight deterioration in the round, a softening if you will. I'm not inclined to do it again.

Only thing i've found so far that works is using glow stick liquid when you shoot at night (doubt it would make any difference during the day). though from another discussion it appears to depend on which brand you use how well it works. I used standard NATO glow sticks and they made the first strikes light up like little stars. I even colored them using red and green in patterns to see how they rotate while leaving the barrel and flying, Was a very very interesting experiment.

I used a bright orange nail polish my mom had. It works well but I noticed it has some sort of side effect on the rounds. The shells on some are deformed and I even had a couple of the rounds have the paint fill evaporate completely. Like the rounds are now completely hollow!! O.o I did have them sitting in 10 round tubes for a couple months right after I painted them, but I will do a thorough experiment when I have my DMAGS.
